Smoked fish dip is a classic South Florida food that is perfect for parties or even sandwiches.  It seems like just about every family and every seafood restaurant has their own “special recipe” for fish dip, and they are all delicious.  If you do not have or do not like smoked fish, this dip is still fantastic with  grilled, poached or even canned fish.  You can use any fish that you like, some popular options are; salmon, mahi, mullet, marlin, and amberjack.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 ounces smoked fish, picked over for stray bones and then coarsely chopped
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded, de-veined and finely minced (if you like things hot, leave some seeds)
  • 2 Tbsp minced red onion
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1/2 Tbsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup mayo (homemade mayo is fantastic in this recipe!)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste (or more Old Bay Seasoning)

Instructions

  • There are two options when making fish dip; smooth and spreadable or chunky and spoonable. Both options are delicious, just different textures.
  • Smooth Fish Dip
  • Place all ingredients in your food processor and pulse until you have an easily spreadable consistency.
  • Chunky Fish Dip
  • Place all ingredients in a large bowl and fold together with a spoon or spatula until well combined. For this option, let your cream cheese soften before you start so it is easy to combine with the other ingredients
  • Serve either style of dip with crackers and enjoy!
